Niche Marketing And Catering To A Specific Audience
Niche marketing is a way of making sure you target a specific audience. They are your primary customer base, those with a reason to buy what you are selling. Some companies carry products that will never appeal to a large, mass audience. In this case, to turn a profit, they have to focus on their target audience. Branching out into other products or marketing towards uninterested parties is just a waste of their time and money,
By carefully marketing to just a specific customer base, they can often keep their prices lower, but profits higher. It also saves on the time that would have been wasted trying to gain the interest of people whose concentration is focused elsewhere. By marketing in this manner, you also develop product specific expertise. You become well-known and trusted in regards to what you manufacture or sell.
Such specific marketing niches can be found in regards to many products. Artists are a prime example of this. It is very easy to get them interested in products that cater to their areas of expertise. On the obverse, though, you are not going to be able to sell fine detail paint brushes to someone that does not paint. So, your market may be small, but it can still be very prolific. You just have to make sure to get attention for yourself.
Another example of a sales niche would be stores that cater to people that collect comic books. This is really not a large portion of the population. They die-hard collector is few and far between. They do exist, but you are not going to find one in every crowd. Those that enjoy this hobby, though, do consider their purchases to be investments. That said, they are perfectly willing to pay higher prices for rare, hard to find items.
There are many such target markets and if you go to a mall, you will usually see several stores targeted just for this. You have probably walked by them numerous times. Baseball card shops, craft stores, antique shops and many more, are all prime examples of places that target niche markets.
You are not going to find someone that collects baseball cards going into a department store and asking if they carry them. They know exactly where to look to find the rare and valuable treasures they are seeking. Even camping and sporting goods stores can be considered to be targeting just certain, specific people. Someone who is not an outdoors enthusiast is not going to suddenly walk in and purchase a kayak for no reason.
The people that walk into these types of stores are already fan of the items they are hunting. They know exactly where to look and they also know that these are the place to find the best quality items. It would not be a smart decision to purchase an antique from someone who knows nothing about them. When you spend your money, you want to make sure you are getting what you pay for. Niche marketing is the perfect means to do this.
