Get More Traffic To Your Website By SEO Optimization 0
The internet is a seemingly infinite source of information and commerce these days. But with so much content out there, how do you get yours seen? The answer begins with SEO Optimization – getting your website to show up at the top of the list on the major search engines, like Google, Yahoo!, Bing, and others.
As far as internet marketing strategies go, paid advertisements are certainly the most direct and may bring a lot of traffic to your site in very little time. On the other hand, SEO (Search Engine Optimization) may take longer to generate traffic, but it doesn’t cost you anything. As a long-term marketing strategy, SEO can be greatly effective.
Optimization begins with changes to the HTML and coding of your website. Titles, keywords, descriptions, and metatags are the most basic starting points. Search engines use “crawlers” to scan your website for search relevance in these areas. This then affects your rank among the results listed on a search engine for any given search phrase. And of course, the higher your rank, the more visible you will be and the more hits you will get, as people tend to view and choose from among the first results provided by their chosen search engine. Although each search engine has its own unique algorithm, or formula for ranking, keywords certainly form the basis for all of them.
So how do you determine what keywords to use? Begin by defining your target audience. As with any other marketing strategy, knowing who you are marketing to is the key. Use those target demographics to determine what titles, keywords, and tags would be the most relevant to your group. Even words that won’t necessarily be seen by your viewers will be detected by the search engine crawlers. This includes the names and descriptions of your image files, in addition to their captions. Be careful to be specific and concise, though, because search engines will ignore a site that appears to be “spamming” or otherwise attempting to increase their rank with popular keywords that are not relevant to the site.
Using internal links is another way to increase SEO. Integrate a variety of different pages into your website with links back to “home” or other parts of the site. A site map, in addition to making your site easier to navigate, is also useful in this way. Search engines look to see how many links on the internet lead to your page, and this can increase your ranking. Naturally, external links will also help in this aspect, although this may go beyond the realm of SEO in the strictest sense, as it often involves paying another site to link to yours.
In the end, SEO optimization is just one of many different internet marketing strategies. By itself, it may not generate extensive traffic, but it is certainly a critical part of establishing a presence on the internet. And in a world where “Google” has become a verb and a staple in internet browsing, it only makes sense to optimize your website to get to the top of that list.
